THE MIRACLE MILE
THE MIRACLE MILE
Harness racing has always held a special place in John Tapp’s heart. In these stories, the legendary racecaller shares his favourite moments from the track, celebrating the champions, characters, and unforgettable races that shaped the sport. It’s harness racing told with heart, history, and a lifetime of love for the trotters and pacers.
CLUB MENANGLE TO HONOUR HARNESS RACING’S FALLEN
I was surprised when Club Menangle historian Peter Collier told me that forty trotting trainers and drivers have died in accidents since the sport began in Australia. In conjunction with his Victorian counterpart John Peck, Peter has worked tirelessly for years to identify the people involved and to trace the circumstances of their fatal accidents.
PUT ON A HAPPY FACE
If there’s a nicer bloke than David Morris around Sydney harness tracks, I haven’t met him yet. The twenty seven year old freelance reinsman with the breezy disposition, would put a bit of spark into the dullest party.
GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT
Match In Heaven has always been a nice horse for owner/breeder John Starr, and trainer Paul Fitzpatrick. Nice enough to record 19 wins and 15 placings for $282,000 in prize money.
