HYGAIN/MITAVITE COUNTRY TRAINER OF THE MONTH MARCH 2022

The award goes to 34 year old Victorian trainer Ben Brisbourne who won four races for the month on four different tracks. Ben trains a small team at Wangaratta and doesn’t mind travelling his horses to find the right race.

His winning quartet was Grey Whisper at Bendigo, Mischinka in the $30,000 Towong Cup, Ghosted at Swan Hill and Suparazi at Benalla. Ben was born in Shropshire (UK) the son of former jockey and trainer Mark Brisbourne. He rode a handful of winners in the amateur ranks but quickly dismissed thoughts of a future in the saddle.

Curiosity more than anything else brought him to Melbourne in 2013. He was tremendously impressed with the vibrant state of Australian racing and decided to test the water. He was to spend five years, most of it as a senior foreman with the Hayes/Dabernig operation at Euroa - five years he deemed a tremendous learning curve.

He acquired his own trainer’s licence as recently as 2018 and has maintained a healthy strike rate with a limited number of runners. Ben is a dedicated user of the Hygain Group’s Tracktorque product. As the March award winner he’ll be receiving twelve complimentary bags of Tracktorque in the near future.
