Saturday September 5th 1998 saw the introduction of Sky Channel’s long awaited home service.
We sought the reaction of many racing personalities on the day and as always Gai Waterhouse was happy to talk to us.
Wearing a vibrant pink spring outfit, Gai expressed her delight that people could at last watch horse racing in their own homes. Hard to believe this interview took place twenty one years ago last Saturday.
The race meeting was highlighted by Might And Power’s brilliant win in the Chelmsford Stakes. It also marked the first Australian appearance of the remarkable Sunline who won the Furious Stakes with Larry Cassidy in the saddle.
Who could have imagined the great mare would retire four years later as the winner of 32 races and $11.3 million dollars in prize money.
